Employees with 5-9 Years' Service After 1995
- Reduced tier I payable at age 62, provided
employee has a social security insured status (using railroad and social
security earnings). Generally, 10 years of combined earnings fulfills this
requirement.
- Reduced tier II payable at age 62
Notes:
- Age reductions same as for those with 10-29 years' service as explained on
next slide, unless already entitled to age-reduced social security security
benefit. In that case, tier I age reduction based on reduction
applicable on beginning date of social security benefit, even if employee
already of full retirement age on beginning date of railroad retirement
annuity.
- If less than 5 years (60 months) of service after 1995, railroad
retirement credits transferred to social security at time of retirement or
death.
- Full retirement age gradually increasing from age 65 to age 67.
