The U.S. Railroad Retirement Board recently appointed Elizabeth Mocek as its Director of Public Affairs. In this role, she will manage the agency’s public affairs program, including oversight of all public communications in the form of press releases and publications and serve as the RRB’s spokesperson on media inquiries.
Ms. Mocek will also oversee management and organization of content on the agency website, RRB.gov, as well as handle responses to congressional inquiries and other high-priority correspondence.
At the time of her selection, Ms. Mocek had been serving as the agency’s acting Director of Public Affairs. Her appointment to the permanent position was effective July 12.
An RRB employee since December 2006, she started as a Medicare claims examiner before becoming a user analyst focused on the Medicare program in March 2009. Ms. Mocek became a specialist in the Office of Public Affairs in August 2012, serving in that position until her service as the acting director.
During her time in the Office of Public Affairs, she was highly involved in an extensive reimagining of RRB.gov, including streamlined content and a vastly improved appearance. She also worked on developing an online registration tool for nationwide educational programs sponsored by the RRB’s Office of the Labor Member and has been playing a key role in making expanded offerings of online services as effective and user friendly as possible.
She succeeds Mike Freeman, who retired in December 2024 after 39 years of service at the agency.
A native of Perrysburg, Ohio, Ms. Mocek attended Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, earning a Bachelor of Science in communications with a major in media studies and a minor in psychology. She currently resides in Chicago.
